My wife is truly my hero! I have had a story that I wanted to tell about her for a very long time. I just never knew how I wanted to tell it, until now. I was driving home from work this afternoon and was trying to think of a way to express my love and devotion to her. Valentines day was yesterday and I am not much of a holiday person, along with being busy I never got her a card. However we did go out to dinner Saturday night, so I am somewhat in the clear. On this drive home I was reminded of a wonderful story she told about purchasing some gas for someone. This might be a nothing for most people but for me it was quite an impressive display of gratitude.
The story goes like this....
I was looking on the table for something, can't quite remember what it was now. I came across some really cool stickers, they were U.S. Marines stickers and had a very shiney finish on them and not hard to miss.
I asked my wife "Where did these come from."
She replied "A soldier gave them to me when I paid for his gas today."
I was suprised and at a loss for words. You have to understand, my wife is very against the war in Iraq. But she also understands that our soldiers don't have a choice where they get deployed to and supports our troops like any Red Blooded American would.
She continues "I pulled into the station to get gas and a man dressed in his uniform pulled into the pump behind me. When the attendant came to my window I told him I wanted to pay for his gas too."
I asked her "Was he suprised? Did he say anything to you?"
She said "He thanked me, and wanted to give these stickers to our children. I told him he did not have to thank me. I just wanted to express my appreciation for what he and the other soldiers are doing and that America supports them."
I was beside myself and have never been prouder of my wife. OK, that is not entirely true, she gave birth without any drugs. I was very proud of her for that. I have always wanted to tell everyone I knew that I have the greatest wife in the world because she did this wonderful thing for someone she did not know.
This is why my wife is my hero and why I love her so much. She has never thought of herself first and has the biggest heart of anyone I know. She would give the shirt off her back to a stranger and ask for nothing in return. I love her more than anything in this or any other world. She is my soul mate for sure. She is my hero!!
